Hello everyone!
Sorry for the delay in getting another entry in but things have been tough around here since my induction day aka my bone marrow transplant aka my second birthday aka the beginning of a whole new world of exhaustion.
As stated previously, in mid-July they cleaned me out (and I mean cleaned me out) through radiation and chemo of everything that could get in the way of the transplant. Then they gave me my donated bone marrow on the 15th (I tried to find out where it was from in case I started speaking with a different accent, but no dice).
Since then, my immune system has been trying to build up slowly. I have had less of an immune system than Zia, so it’s been wake up after 10 hours of sleep with at least one to two infections, go to hospital for platelets and other remedies, back home to crash in our apartment in Baltimore, eat about ¼ of what I would normally eat and then crash again along with at least 15-20 pills to keep me busy.
Luckily, I got some good news today! My new white blood cells from the transplant are beginning to take root after floating around in my body. It’s kind of like they’ve been looking for a landing spot, like a Mars rover or something (“Stay on target, stay on target”). Hopefully this will help out with the other infections I have been having, like the sores in my mouth (it’s like tiny little razors).
There is also a casualty during this most recent battle, namely my hair (again). To get ahead of it, Mom shaved my head earlier in the week, and now my beard is trying to escape. As evident by last winter, it’s a temporary thing, but it makes me feel like Gru or Lex Luthor. Still, it will grow back, things will get better, and according to some, it will even cover my bald spot a little more when it rejuvenates itself!
That’s it for now, true-believers (sorry, but my inner geek is coming out), but I will try to post every two to three days about my progress and all the overall highs and lows of this portion of my life.
